About NFO
The Noam Faingold Orchestra is my rock orchestra, comprised of myself on guitar and voice, a 10-piece string chamber orchestra plus drums and bass. The NFO is based out of NYC. We usually play songs I wrote and then orchestrated, but we’ve also performed pieces from the classical repertoire like Webern’s ridiculously difficult Five Movements for String Quartet, which I arranged for the group and conducted. Members of the group also often play my classical pieces like my chamber symphony and string quartet. We’ve had the privilege to be named in the top 20 of the BBC’s “Next Big Thing 2007” Competition, and to open for composer David Amram at the Lower East Side Festival in May 2009 in NYC. You can see footage on the video page.
Other groups we’ve had the honor of sharing bills with include the Majnun rock ‘n roll string quartet, Paper Pyramid and the Bailen Brothers. Other venues at which we’ve performed include Sullivan Hall, Lit Lounge NYC and an Amnesty International benefit at Washington Square Park.
